Jadebook at it's core, is simply a tool to help you understand yourself better

The Jadebook Story

Jadebook is a solo developer project. It started out as a quick Notion copy and use it as a portfolio project. But over time, an idea came to mind.

Firstly, life is difficult and as a solution, I usually used journal apps to keep myself mentally focused. But these are lowkey horrible, either they lacked features or had horrible UI/UX.

Secondly, our modern culture often doesn't leave us with enough time to think about our lives. So, that's where I thought AI would be an interesting thing to explore. What if we gave it a journal as context, and then it would act as a sort of therapist?

And that's how Jadebook was born. I made the free tier have pretty much everything (except file upload because files are expensive) you'd need in a journal. I used to be extremely frustrated with journal app pay-walling things like text formatting — like why?

The AI is pretty interesting too and it's seems to have a lot of potential. It's obviously not an actual replace for a therapist — AI simply can't understand those complex human emotions. But it's a fairly simple way to improve your mental health and can be a pretty great support system.

Being a solo project also meant that I can keep the cost low and the privacy high. I don't have to worry about selling your data to advertisers or third parties. There are no ads and there's no need to answer to investors. Pretty good, right?

How Jadebook works

The core of Jadebook lies with the idea of journaling. Journaling is already a proven way of improving your mental health. It offers a way to maintain mindfulness, reflect on your thoughts, and keep yourself aligned with your future endeavors

So, here's where we aim to improve on the journaling experience. Firstly, journaling comes in different forms, you can talk and have Jadebook convert your speech to text, you can follow a guided system of questions or write on pre-defined prompts to help you reflect on your thoughts.

Then, we introduce Goals. Life is unpredictable and some goals simply aren't quantifiable and can't be put into a to-do app. So, goals are structured as a scientific journal. You say where you'd like to end up, say in 3 months, and then you log your experiences as you progress towards it.

Then we introduce the AI. We don't want to ruin the core experience and we also don't want to claim it to be a therapist. So, you use AI to do things like summarize, categorize, find patterns and insights.

Then you can share your journal entries with your actual therapist and have them guide you through your journey.

This let's you gain all the benefits of journaling, AI and therapy without compromising on any of them. A system that's designed to help you understand yourself better and improve your mental health.
